I have been blessed with experiences that allow me to share with absolute assurance that there is no death and that we are eternal. For me, this reality is not a matter of faith but is grounded in experience. I have been sensitive to Spirit all my life, so experiences with those who are in the Spirit world have already confirmed to me the reality of a greater life and the survival of the Soul after death. I have been given a gift which allows me the opportunity to communicate with and see those on the other side of the door we know as death. Even though today this gift is a comfort for me and those who I work with in counseling, I had for many years tried to avoid such experiences because they made me different and I was not really sure how it all worked.
Angels are found in many traditions. Just as you probably have, I had heard about angels since I was a child. To be honest, I did not really believe that angels actually existed as a separate and distinct type of entity even though I had regular experiences with Spirit. I remember when I was very young seeing a white light which would float over the sofa in my bedroom and sing to me at night. It was the most beautiful woman’s voice. It happened quite often, and at the time it seemed very normal to me. I had no idea that others did not experience such things. I realize now that it was most likely an angel singing to me and that it was a gift.
A transformational experience for me regarding my understanding of angels happened about 20 years ago. My wife Sandi and I had been invited to a lecture and demonstration by the gifted spiritual healer, Sharon Forrester. As always, I could see many spirits in the room which appeared as silhouettes of light standing and moving among those gathered. During the lecture, I noticed a Spirit unlike any other I could see in the room. It was a golden figure of a woman standing approximately 5 foot tall. She seemed to float about six inches off the ground. I could see her facial features, her delicate hands and a flowing gown which glowed with the most beautiful inner light. What made her appear truly special and distinct was the billowing golden radiant energy I could see that moved at her back and which looked, as it billowed in and out, not unlike wings. This entity was clearly different from any I had seen before. After a few moments of watching it, I realized that I was seeing a healing angel working with Sharon Forrester.
As I watched, the angel would move out among those gathered, touch people and then move on. I guess it may sound odd to say this but this entity had an important impact on me. Up to this point, experience had suggested to me that angels were ministering human souls who, after their transition into Spirit, had chosen a path of service. Therefore, I had felt that an angel would not look any different than any other disembodied Spirit. But here seemed to be a real angel, separate and distinct from other entities I had encountered before.
The angel would always end up standing beside the healer. As Sharon talked the angel continued to move out into the audience and touch people and then return. I closed my eyes and opened them again to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I asked those around me if they could see anything. They could not. The angel moved past me several times and turned her head to look at me as she passed. She seemed to be surprised that I could see her as she worked. I watched the angel’s movements for over half an hour before Sharon began doing a healing on a volunteer.
Watching the healing was incredibly confirmational for me. The angel's behaviour was quite unlike anything I would have expected. I could see a side view of Sharon and the person receiving the healing as they stood at the front of the room. When Sharon began the healing, the angel stepped into her. I could see the angel's hands and arms superimposed over Sharon's with the billowed energy (wings) clearly visible coming out of the back of the healer. Unexpectedly, when Sharon moved her hands to the waist of the person receiving the healing, the angel crouched rather than just reaching down. Since Sharon had remained standing, I could see the image of the crouched angel superimposed over her and out from Sharon’s waist came the angel's hands and arms to meet Sharon's hands as they worked on the volunteer.
After the experience, I shared it with Sharon, who was aware that a healing angel worked with her. Like most people, except for sharing it with my wife Sandi, I kept the experience to myself. A few weeks later, I was at another workshop and met a man who had been at the demonstration by Sharon. He was describing to people an angel he had seen at the same workshop. In every detail, it was the angel that I had witnessed.
For me this experience was a confirmation of the presence of God in our lives. It proved to me that angels do exist - that they are distinct from spirit people and that they can bring healing. Today I understand them to be God’s messengers working with us as we face life’s special challenges. I also believe that they can appear with wings if that is how we will recognize them. The experience helped set me on a path of service to share with others the message that we are all eternal and that God moves in our lives no matter what faith we are. It is clear to me that good people from all faiths are our brothers and sisters and that they will stand with us in the heaven world.
My connection to the Spirit realms is one of the things which drew me to the Interfaith Ministry. At this point, I have worked as an Interfaith Minister for over 25 years. I have been privileged over the years to work as a counsellor with many people seeking understanding and peace. They had felt that the world was chaotic and allowed this to fill their lives with chaos. I have found that there are 3 basic truths which have been able to restore their sense balance and their peace of mind. The first is to understand that the only chaos that we can control is the chaos that exists within us. We have absolute power over our thoughts and our inner world. The second is to understand that life is purposeful even though we do not always understand it. And the third, and possibly the most important, is to understand that we are Spirit and that there is no death.
